Journal of the Early Book Society
Volume 23, Fall 2020
NEW YORK, NY – Pace University Press is excited to announce the release of the Journal of the Early Book Society, Volume 23.
This volume features an analysis of manuscripts and early printed books in Sicily from 1750 to 1850, with a focus on circulation and social networks among the antiquarians in addition to exploring the use of manuscript charms in late medieval England and an analysis of Christian motifs in the first Darmstadt Haggadah.
This peer-reviewed journal is edited by Dr. Martha Driver, co-founder of the Early Book Society for the study of manuscripts and printing history. “The scholarship on the history of the book is written by authors from all over the world,” said Driver. “It makes for compelling reading for anyone interested in the subject.”
Additional articles included in this volume:
“’On the Eve’: Politics and the Copying of Trinity College Dublin MS 73” by John Scattergood address heresies in the compilation made by John Benet.
“The Materiality of Manuscript Charms in Late-Medieval England: Ink and Writing Surface” by Katherine Storm Headley explores the Takamiya MS 46 manuscript’s use of medieval rituals.
